Frames - RAW Editor · Choose, edit and show photos

What’s New

Frames 1.3.1 brings a composition reading to Develop, imports straight from USB cameras and makes the looks easier to tell apart. DEVELOP • Composition is now a layer over the photograph, with its marks on the picture and a card at the lower left. Click the Frames mark or the viewfinder button to show it. • On macOS 27 with Apple Intelligence, the card says what the photograph seems to be about and offers up to three suggestions. The reading is made on your Mac. • Colour | Monochrome heads the Looks list, so a colour photograph can try the nine monochrome looks. The Stocks are retuned further apart, and K3, H1 and L7 replace three that looked alike. Existing edits keep their look. • Layers open with Find Subjects, and the brush paints or erases. • Perspective has its own group. After Align with Guides…, its sliders show the guided values. IMPORT • Import from a camera connected over USB in PTP mode. It appears under DEVICES and in File › Import…. EXPORT • Share or Folder heads the export settings, and Replace never overwrites an original in your catalogue. SYNC • Sync no longer stops when iCloud refuses an upload as too large. • Settings › Sync opens with where this Mac stands and whether your other devices have every change. ON YOUR MAC • After purchase, choose from six app icons in Settings › General.

What’s New

Welcome to Frames 1.3. Find your photographs, choose the keepers and make the final edits, with your originals safely unchanged. YOUR LIBRARY Bring together Apple Photos, folders and external drives. Import memory cards with duplicate checks and RAW+JPEG pairing. Organise albums, folders and collections across sources. Add keywords, titles, captions, credit and capture-time corrections. FIND AND EXPLORE Search detected subjects, visible text, keywords and captions; filter by camera, lens, date and location, and save searches. Explore similar photographs, group related frames into sets, and browse named trips and days. Journey maps the stops you photographed; World lights up a globe and lets you explore your library by year, season or this day in every year. Add locations from GPX, FIT or KML tracks. CHOOSE YOUR KEEPERS Sweep, Rate, Inspect and Cleanup guide a shoot from first pass to final selection. Keep, reject and rate with a key or tap. Compare up to six photographs with linked zoom, face close-ups, focus peaking and sharpest-frame guidance. File deletion happens only in Cleanup, after confirmation. DEVELOP YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS Develop RAW and regular photographs with exposure, Auto Tone, white balance, RGB curves, an eight-band colour mixer and colour-grading wheels. Shape monochrome conversions and toning; adjust clarity, texture and dehaze. Add grain, halation and vignette. Crop, straighten, correct perspective and apply lens corrections. Supported RAW controls include sharpening, noise reduction and highlight recovery. MASKS, REPAIRS AND VERSIONS Use brushes, linear and radial gradients, colour, luminance and depth ranges, and detected subject, background, people, face-part and object masks. Sky and interactive Select masks require macOS 27. Heal or clone spots and strokes, and reuse sensor-dust maps across a selection. Keep multiple versions beside ORIGINAL, compare them with a movable divider, and copy or batch-apply edits. Try 32 included looks, adjust their strength and import supported Lightroom preset settings. EXPORT AND PRESENT Soft proof and export JPEG, HEIF, TIFF or PNG with presets for size, colour space, metadata, file names and watermark. Add photographic frames and captions, or share contact sheets as images or PDFs. With permission, publish reversible edits back to Photos. Present full-screen slideshows with captions, motion, transitions and paired portraits. ON YOUR MAC Composition Review helps you explore framing from your own intention. Use XMP and Frames treatment sidecars, catalogue backup and transfer, keyboard controls and rawctl automation. Follow jobs in the Dock; put collections and work queues on your desktop. WORK ACROSS DEVICES Private iCloud sync carries ratings, verdicts, metadata, edits, versions, collections, saved searches, looks and export presets. Photographs and previews are not uploaded by decision sync. Processing and image analysis run on your device. Shortcuts, Siri, Spotlight, Handoff, interactive widgets and the built-in Field Guide help you keep working. TRY EVERYTHING A 30-day trial includes every feature. One in-app purchase unlocks Frames on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, with no subscription or Frames account. Your catalogue and edits remain saved after the trial.

What’s New

New in Frames 1.2 LIBRARY AND REVIEW • Albums and folders are grouped beneath their source. Browse a whole source, expand its tree independently, and restore the selected place, source order and open trees after restarting. Add to… groups albums by source and prevents moves into another source. • New Frames collections: organise photographs from different sources in nested folders, arrange them by hand, drag photographs into collections and reorder them in the grid. Missing members keep placeholders. Collections and their order sync through iCloud. • Search shows its place and matching/total counts. Filter collections/searches by name; search for Missing originals, combine it with other filters and save the search. Missing-original removal refreshes results immediately. • Hide and reveal albums across devices. Browse and Choose retain their own views; each window restores its search, grid position and Develop session. All windows are saved on quit. • Exposure dials, focal length and capture data in the status bar and Info panel. Clearer context menus put verdicts and ratings first; judge from the filmstrip menu and keep the selection after rating. Give each star rating your own meaning; a Mac can make rated photos Photos favorites. • Animated chalk Keep boxes and Reject strikes, faster spring photo flights and mode changes, improved drag/drop pictures and Reduce Motion support. SHARING AND PRESENTING • Create 3000-pixel JPEG contact sheets from a selection or Frames collection, with layout/style, frame numbers and captions. Share from the Photo menu or write to a folder with Export’s Contact sheet preset. With progress and cancellation. • Present a multiple selection full screen, with prepared presentation images and configurable playback. • Copyright capture-year tokens resolve during export; export progress identifies failed photographs. DEVELOP • Rotate in quarter turns and flip horizontally or vertically. • Apply Auto tone to a selection with immediate previews and progress; safer undo and clearer action eligibility. • New film-inspired Looks, including golden-negative, classic-print and soft-cinema treatments, and stronger stock Looks. • Expanded composition reference and detection with fifteen additional techniques, including golden ratio, rhythm, odds and scale cues; suggestion confidence levels. • RAW decoding falls back across decoder versions when ImageIO has no usable preview. Clearer states for undecodable files; folder previews upgrade after scans and reconnection. • More reliable edited grid/filmstrip thumbnails, mask geometry and range masks, stacked curves, version creation, render failure recovery and concurrent-edit handling. The last valid picture stays visible. SYNC, SOURCES AND SETTINGS • Optional iCloud sync for ratings, verdicts, edits, Looks, saved searches, folder-source definitions, hidden albums, collections, hand-made sets, export presets and photographer settings. Link verified photograph identities across devices; bind a source added elsewhere to its local folder. • Scene-analysis sync, per-stream status, device and history information, Pause Sync, clearer account/errors/waits and creator/copyright sync status. Safer conflicts, recovery, throttling and active edits. • Daily complete Photos reconciliation repairs missed arrivals, departures and album memberships while retaining saved work. Sub-millisecond date differences no longer requeue unchanged previews; affected cached previews are restored. • Incremental set gathering, finer preview/analysis progress, fewer empty background sync loops and safer card/folder rescans and reconnects. • Redesigned Settings tabs, library statistics, per-device derived-data limits and manual Reduce/trim controls. Trimming protects downloaded originals and grid thumbnails; unreferenced previews are pruned. • Accessibility, Increase Contrast, German/Spanish localisation and shared rendering fixes throughout.
